Week of July 13th- FaceSpace Nation

What are we doing? Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and Text. Why are we not having personal interaction with others anymore? I have fallen victim to social media, and i am not saying its a bad thing, because i like posting things and reading about others just like the next guy, but when is too much too much? I have been seeing a trend, do we do this for some self full-fillment or is it a sense of feeling like we belong to something. A wise person once said to me "it doesn't matter the quantity of friend, what matters is the quality". How many can truly say everyone in their friends on those sites are a true friend? Does anyone really grasp the meaning! This is not a bash post against those sites but merely a reflection of thoughts and a chance for self actualization. Life is a precious gift in which we are given so take what wisdom you have and pay it forward to others, anyone reading this i challenge to enlighten me to think outside the box and give this post a different view on what was said. Okay so i am starting fresh this week and stay tuned for more witty adventures, till next time.

  1. Chomsky discussed these matters last week at a church in Harlem "...suppose that, say, fifty years ago Americans had been given a choice of directing their tax money to development of information technology, so that their grandchildren could have iPods and the internet, or else putting the same funds into developing a livable and sustainable socioeconomic order. Well, they might very well have made the latter choice. But they had no choice. Now, that’s standard. There’s a striking gap between public opinion and public policy on a host of major issues, domestic and foreign. And, at least in my judgment, public opinion is often a lot more sane. It also tends to be fairly consistent over time, which is pretty astonishing, because public concerns and aspirations, if they’re even mentioned, are marginalized and ridiculed."

  2. We had dinner with friends this weekend and I dare say the laptops and cell phones were scarce. No one tweet'd, text'd or updated their myspace (ok so maybe a cell phone came out to take a hilarious picture...just sayin'...). We just sat around, talked face to face and had a WONDERFUL time getting to know each other in person, the good ol' fashioned way. How refreshing!!
